Dow Jones Av|er|age, the [ ,dau `dʒounz ,ævərıdʒ ] or ,Dow `Jones ,Index, the TRADEMARK
a number that represents an average of the SHARE value of important companies in the U.S. It goes up or down every day according to activity on the STOCK MARKET, and is used as a sign of how well the economy is performing. The Dow Jones Average is often simply called the Dow Jones or the Dow.
